Levi James Maciejewski "went to be in the arms of Jesus" on Tuesday, Aug. 20, his family wrote in a statement.
Pennsylvania State Police had been called to investigate the death of the 13-year-old in the 300 block of Britton Road in Shippensburg around 2:08 p.m. on Aug. 20, as Daily Voice previously reported.
"There are no other details available at this time," PSP Trooper H PIO Megan Frazer said, adding that "The investigation is ongoing."
The Shippensburg School District has released the following statement:
"It is with great sadness that we inform you of the tragic death of a member of our school community, a student at the Middle School."
School counselors are available for students affected by this tragedy.
Levi is survived by his parents Mark and Tricia, and brother Brady.
Mark is the head football coach at Shippensburg University, according to the school's website.
"Their hearts are broken, as we know the community is hurting too," as written in the statement by the family. "Together, we will get through one day at a time. Please pray for the Maciejewski family, as they begin to navigate through the hardest journey."
The family has created an email account where the community can share stories and photos of the countless memories shared with Levi over the years: levi.j.maciejewski@gmail.com.
No fundraisers have been set up at the time of publishing, "As any unmet needs arise, we will reach out and share a care plan that you can help with," the family explained.
"Please hug your children tight, tell them you love them, and pray over our dear friends," their statement concludes.
